Facial Mole Removal

 

Moles are small dark or flesh colored spots on your skin, they come in many types, and a few are at risk for cancerous cells. Moles can grow on the outer layers of the dermis or in deeper tissue. Once thought to be a mark of beauty, today most people simply want to remove them, especially if they are extremely noticeable. Facial mole removal has become a common cosmetic procedure.

Each one will have a different treatment process; however, the most important issue is whether the mole is benign or malignant. Moles that have hair growing in them should first be biopsied to determine if they are benign or not. Most moles are benign but you can never be too careful.

If a mole comes back as possibly cancerous, your physician will want to carefully remove the mole and a small amount of skin boarder. This is so they can be more confident of removing all cancerous tissue.
Normal moles can be removed in a variety of ways.

• Excisional- This is a procedure by which the entire mole and some surrounding tissue is removed.

• Shaving- This removes the mole to skin level, this procedure can leave a red mark for a short time, and the downside is the mole can grow back.

• Laser- Using a laser to remove moles can be effective; nevertheless, some detractors say that the laser cannot penetrate deeply enough to get all the tissue. It is preferable in some instances since there is no need for stitches with this type of treatment.

• Freezing- Some surgeons will use freezing in conjunction with surgical removal. The outer layers are frozen before the surgeon shaves the mole with a scalpel and then he will cauterize the stump to prevent it from growing back.

• Electrocautery- This method utilizes electrical current to destroy the unwanted tissue. This is most commonly used for skin tags as it only reaches a superficial layer.

Finally

Moles in and of themselves are harmless; a small number of them will have any type of cancerous activity. That being said it is still wise to treat them with caution. Always consult a qualified professional about any new mole growth be it on the face or other places. Avoid overexposure to the sun whenever possible as UV light has been linked to mole formation.
